MILLSTONE PARK – HYLLESTAD
The production of millstones in
Hyllestad started over 1,000 years
ago, and used to be a major industry
employing up to 1000 people.
Millstones were exported to
danish and baltic areas and the
western islands. Many of the
crosses to be seen along the coast
are made of mill stone from
Hyllestad, including the crosses in
Eivindvik and Korssund. The park
offers nature trails that visualise
the ancient of the history of the
industry, with debris og broken
product as well as half-carved
stones still not separated from the
rock surface. Guided tours in the
summer and stonemasonry camp,
including activities.

historical walk offers a memorable tour through Kvernsteinsparken Mill
Stone
Park. You will be able to see and “sense” a history that is
more than 1000 years old. The remains and traces of mill stone production
will awaken your imagination and curiosity. Kvernsteinsparken Mill Stone
Park in Hyllestad is a beautiful sight that took shape gradually under
the precision of the stone cutters’ chisels. The tour ends at the
stone cutters’ camp with simple refreshments
served round a bonfire.
Price: Adults NOK 50,- Children NOK 30,-.
Season: 1/6 - 31/7. Tuesday-Saturday, 13.00-16.00.
The historical walk is included in the price for those who have registered
to experience the life of a stone cutter at the stone cutters’ camp.
Kvernsteinsparken Mill Stone Park is accessible to the public outside normal
opening hours.
